FLASHBACK RESULTS: September 16th 2000

The Bomber Stock heat race was dominated by #545 Bob Blew and #588 Scott Denton finishing 1-2 and getting the front row for the Main. With just a couple of minor adjustments made by the Scott Denton Racing Award Winning Pit Crew, Scott Denton over took Bob Blew for the lead after lap 1 and led for the next 16-laps. The "Rebel" found a high groove to run to his liking and ran it with perfection. Garity, who was crowned divisional champ a week earlier, was the class of the bomber stocks. He set fast time for the 13th time this year, and then roared from 14th starting position in the 20-lap finale. Scott Denton and Bill Holland held the field at bay round after round. At one point the top eight cars were bottled up at the front of the pack. But Garity slowly picked his way through the pack. Once he was on Denton's tail, he made short order of the rookie. Garity drove under him and turn two on lap 18 and pulled away. Denton lost second to Bill Holland just before the checkered flag, but he too faced disqualification at the post-race inspection. That moved Randy Wallace, Scott Youngren, and Chris Boyer into third through fifth. Youngren's crew had to struggle all week to get his third place car in points repaired after a costly wreck a week earlier and will be selling the 501 car afterwards.
With post race inspection upcoming, the #588 Pit Crew celebrated in the inspection area unknowing that a 6-inch clearance will be measured upon arrival. Sure enough, a DQ was issued by Nascar race officials because the ride height on the Ford Bomber was 5/8-inch off the legal mark and all points gained were lost. Tech Official Larry Trombley was seen leaning on the front bumper but then was aked to re-measure, and so he did, and again the ride height was 5/8-inch too low. "We have made unbelievable strides these past 2-weeks with this race team", says fill in Pit Crew Member Mike Socorro, "We have posted a 6th place finish and a 3rd place in 7-days with a new pit crew and we hope to make it in victory lane next week, look out Bomber Stocks, here comes the "Rebel"!
